Maine Lobster: Soft-shell versus Hard shell :: Essays Papers
Maine Lobster: Soft-shell versus Hard shell A lobster must shed its shell in order to grow. It takes about five to seven years for a lobster to become a legal size harvestable adult. Soft-shell is the term used for a newly molted lobster. A soft-shell lobster has a shell with room for growth. Soft-shell lobsters are not as full of meat because their new shell is larger than the muscle inside the body. The part not filled with its bodyââ¬â¢s muscle tissue is filled with water. Soft-shell lobsters may look big on the outside, but they have a much lower meat yield on the inside. Most adult lobsters molt from June to September depending upon location and water temperatures. Hard-shell lobster is a lobster with an old shell whose body has completely filled its shell. A hard-shell lobster is a fully meated lobster which is mainly caught during the winter and spring months of the fishing season. During these months, lobsters are at their peak health and condition, and the meat yields are at their highest. Why do consumers prefer soft-shell lobsters to hard-shell lobsters? Many consumers prefer soft-shell lobsters over hard-shell lobsters because of several reasons. According to some people, meat from soft-shell lobsters is more tender than from hard-shell ones. They contend that the meat is sweeter and juicier than the hard-shell lobsters. In addition, some people prefer soft-shell lobsters because they do not need any tools to crack them apart. Moreover, some people prefer soft-shell lobsters because they are less expensive than hard-shell ones. If you are looking for cheap and abundant soft-shell lobsters, then the summer months are good because the weather does not keep lobstermen from fishing them. Why do consumers prefer hard-shell lobsters to soft-shell lobsters? Many consumers prefer hard-shell lobsters over soft-shell lobsters because of several reasons. Hard-shell lobster contains fifty percent more meat than the same size soft-shell lobster. Hard-shell meat is firmer, while soft-shell meat is softer and tends to have more water. Furthermore, hard-shell lobsters ship better than soft-shell lobsters because they are less likely to crack en route. If you are looking for hard-shell lobsters, the winter months are ideal for this, but prices are higher because it is more trying for lobstermen to be out in the elements.

Creating a Virtual Reality Game :: Video Games
Introduction When people think of play, many most likely revert back to their childhood and picture their innocent games of make-believe and pretend. According to Brian Sutton-Smith, author of The Ambiguity of Play, play ââ¬Å"glorifies freedom, originality, genius, the arts, and the innocent and uncorrupted character of the childhood visionâ⬠(Sutton-Smith, vii). He claims that play is ambiguous, and can deal with many different ideas and characters such as animals, children, adults, fate, power, identity, imagination, phantasmagoria, the self, frivolity, as well as many other outside factors (Sutton-Smith, v). However, Iââ¬â¢d like to focus on Sutton-Smithââ¬â¢s definition above that relates play to glorifying freedom and innocence and play as an element of imagination and make believe because this is my most enjoyable form of play. Inspiration The inspiration for my project is the movie, ââ¬Å"The Lord of the Rings Trilogyâ⬠because it is my favorite fantasy movie. When watching these movies, a person can get lost in the colorful worlds, detailed characters and incredible adventures that create the magic of the film. This is the old technology I would like to stem from. Watching movies is in itself is an exciting and imaginative form of play. You get emotionally attached to the characters and are sad when the movie ends. But most of the time you are sitting in a theater or a room and just watching the film. I want to take this idea a step further. I want to allow people to step inside the movies they watch. So instead of being a passive receiver of the movie, I want a person to be able to interact with the film and its characters. To achieve this heightened sense of play, I have developed the Virtual Realm. Users/Settings/Social Elements The player must be over 18 years of age for equipment liability reasons and this type of game can appeal to all different types of people: male/female, younger/older, lower/upper class etc. The Virtual Realm can be compared to places like virtual reality arcades and interactive shows like Medieval Times. The Virtual Realm can be a solitary experience or people may choose to interact as a group. They can enter into the same chamber (fits 3 people max, depending on size of chamber) or they can all enter different chambers and interact in the scene together by being different characters. The Making of the Virtual Realm The Virtual Realm is a new virtually reality based playground where a person can go if they wish to interact with their favorite movies.

The Zebra Storyteller
Once upon a time there was a Siamese cat who pretended to be a lion and spoke inappropriate Zebraic. That language is whinnied by the race of striped horses in Africa. Here now: An innocent zebra is walking in a jungle, and approaching from another direction is the little cat; they meet. ââ¬Å"Hello there! â⬠says the Siamese cat in perfectly pronounced Zebraic. ââ¬Å"It certainly is a pleasant day, isnââ¬â¢t it? The sun is shining, the birds are singing, isnââ¬â¢t the world a lovely place to live today! The zebra is so astonished at hearing a Siamese cat speaking like a zebra, why, heââ¬â¢s just fit to be tied. So the little cat quickly ties him up, kills him, and drags the better parts of the carcass back to his den. The cat successfully hunted zebras many months in this manner, dining on filet mignon of zebra every night, and from the better hides he made bow neckties and wide belts after the fashion of the decadent princes of the Old Siamese court. He began boastin g to his friends he was a lion, and he gave them as proof the fact that he hunted zebras. The delicate noses of the zebras told them there was really no lion in the neighborhood. The zebra deaths caused many to avoid the region. Superstitious, they decided the woods were haunted by the ghost of a lion. One day the storyteller of the zebras was ambling, and through his mind ran plots for stories to amuse the other zebras, when suddenly his eyes brightened, and he said, ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢s it!Iââ¬â¢ll tell a story about a Siamese cat who learns to speak our language! What an idea! Thatââ¬â¢ll make ââ¬â¢em laugh! â⬠Just then the Siamese cat appeared before him, and said, ââ¬Å"Hello there! Pleasant day today, isnââ¬â¢t it! â⬠The zebra storyteller wasnââ¬â¢t fit to be tied at hearing a cat speaking his language, because heââ¬â¢d been thinking about that very thing. He took a good look at the cat, and he didnââ¬â¢t know why, but there was something abou t his looks he didnââ¬â¢t like, so he kicked him with a hoof and killed him. That is the function of the storyteller.

Silent Suffering – A short Story
In the beginning, the job of an obesity councillor had its perks, I must admit. I used to crave the enjoyment I received from helping someone who needed me, but I never thought that helping myself would be my downfall. My wife, she hates me, I can see it in her eyes every time she dares to look my way. And my children, what use am I to them now? Too fat to even kick a ball! A little support from her wouldn't go amiss I reckon, but of course she has a life of her own. I used to be happy, we used to be happy. Then everything changed. My job was everything to me, but how can a fat pig of a man like me show any kind of encouragement for his patients? I think it happened when my father died, we were close me and him. I took four weeks off from work, the wife was away on business and the kids stopped with her parents. All I could do was eat, I thought it would go away, but even now, almost two years later food is all I think about. I suppose the fact I recognise what I'm doing is a starting point, but what have I got to live for now? I really can't see my marriage making it to the end of the year, they'll take the kids off me, I'm sure. What kind of a dad can I be? They'll say I'm mad, they're probably right too. Look at me! So desperate for someone to talk to that I have talk to the ugly thing staring back in the mirror! Councillor heal thyself comes to mind doesn't it? It never works you know, bottling things up. It only leads to unhappiness. But when you're unhappy anyway there's not really a difference. Sometimes I just want to end it; it's like a physical pain, burning in my chest. I've planned it you know, I'm scared of course, that's why I keep putting it off. Fat coward! Yesterday at work, suicide seemed inevitable once again. For 15 years I've sat at my desk listening to the depressed stories of people like me. Can you imagine what that does to a man? My whole working career has been spent in a cell of depression and my professional mind is telling me it's definitely taken its toll! I remember my daughter's sports day a few months ago. She dragged me up for the parents' race, I tried to refuse but she wouldn't let me. The whistle blew and away we went. Other dads racing like ruddy hares and then there was me, huffing and puffing at the back. I didn't even cross the line before I collapsed in a heap, pains tearing through my chest. Teachers rushing around, determined to phone for an ambulance but I wouldn't have it. I looked up; my wife stood in the distance a scowl on her face as usual. She said later that it served me right, practically calling me a greedy pig in the process! She's right though, as always. You see, what can a man like me give to the world? I'm just another statistic, another middle aged man with no life. Fat and ugly, that's all I am! All I need is some pills; I know we have plenty around the house. Just enough to do the job. I'll take them before I sleep, that way I'll never feel it, just go to sleep and never wake up. She'll be happy, I know it. Free to be with the fancy man I know she has! My eyes are closed now, it won't be long. I left a note in the kitchen telling my kids that I love them. I didn't say anything about the wife mind you. I used to be a good man, with a purpose! How did I come to be this?

Four Business Types – Pros and Cons
In my opinion, Corporation is the best form suited to venture as intended by Victoria & Quentin because it is separate legal entity distinct from its owners & have well defined registered by laws. These organizations are highly regulated & attract capital even from outside source very easily & existed infinitely. The main issues concerning the Intellectual property rights in providing licensing Marvel's intellectual property to Universal studios are Copyright and Trademark protections to the theme parks which Disney proposed to develop by using Thor, The Hulk, Iron man etc. Law related to copy rights gives the author or creator of work the exclusive rights for limited time span in order to promote creativity & allow control over use of artistic creations. Authors have been given powers to manage the characters (like The Hulk, Iron Man etc) as created by them & any one copying it definitely attract legal provisions (Chapter 17 of the United States Code). However there is the right of public to benefit from the authors work but that too exist on supposition that once copyrightable work enters public domain, others should be allowed to benefit from it and can make make it better for the excellence of all. Where Copyright law protect original writings of an author & dealt with character development and individualization protection trademark laws actually take care trademarks commercial value & designed to safeguard endures against confusion as to source or authorization of an item. Therefore trademark owner has given control over use of the sign or mark in association with those goods and services for which mark symbolizes. The Securities Act of 1933 which originally introduced on account of economic crisis of 1929 and mainly focus on two main objectives: First, to ensure more transparency in financial statements so as to facilitate investors to take informed decisions and second, to establish stringent laws to curb fraudulent activities/misrepresentation in securities markets. Whereas the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 derived to provide for governance of securities transactions in secondary market & to regulate stock exchanges and intermediaries (broker-dealers) to protect public investments. The main purpose of Securities Act of 1933 was to maximize the disclosure of financial through the detailed process of registration of securities. In case investor suffers losses on account of misleading information, they have recovery rights on proving that losses arises due to incomplete or inaccurate information. Whereas by means of Securities Act of 1933, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was created which has broad powers & authority over all aspects of the securities market inclusive of brokerage firms, transfer agents, and clearing agencies and even nation's securities self regulatory organizations (like New York Stock Exchange, the NASDAQ Stock Market, Chicago Board of Options, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority etc). This act also provides the Commission with disciplinary powers over various regulated entities and persons associated with them & include provisions for periodic reporting of certain information by companies whose shares are publicly traded. A company planning for an IPO must appoint a lead manager (book runner) who helps to determine appropriate price of shares to be issued, which can be done by either of the two methods i. e. ither through lead managers or through analysis of confidential investor demand data, which is to be compiled by the book runner known as book building process. IPO requires effective planning comprising of development of an impressive management and professional team, significant growth of company's business so have known public marketplace, available audited financial statements following Internationally accepted accounting principles, compliance's of various act, good corporate governance practices etc. Victoria & Quentin fund raise not amount to IPO but a private placement/funding in which funds can be raised not directly from public but through private investors/ merchant bankers or private equity firms on which minimum regulations are applicable & statutory provisions of an IPO are not applicable. Patent: Patent protects an invention which is novel, useful, and non-obvious. Whereas invention refers to any new article, new machine, or any process or combination thereof or any new use developed by human being but that invention must not form part of public domain nd not previously known in the public before invented. It must be new. Also that invention must be non obvious to person skilled in art. Copyright: Copyrights usually protect the works of an author like writings, music, artistic work or art work which can be expressed in tangible form. It generally gives protection to software, web, course materials, publications, electronically or non electronically, printed or non printed. Trade Mark: Trademarks gives protection to the words, names, marks, symbols, or colors etc. hich differentiate between the goods and services and direct to the source of those goods or services. Trademarks can be renewed forever to the extent they can be Trade Secret: A trade secret is an information which the organizations generally keep secret or undisclosed so as to give them advantage on their opponents/competitors. In the given instances, there is an infringement claim of patent which is design with respect to chip clip for multiple bags of potato chips & another is an infringement of Copyright & trademark when to use the words ââ¬Å"Astroclawâ⬠â⬠similar to ââ¬Å"Atomic Clawâ⬠. In order to make case their effective Victoria & Quentin must prove that, there is no infringement of Intellectual Property rights. They can give evidence to prove that the designs & music has already been created by them as new without copying and their claims & application filed by Gunnar & Alexander fails to serve the test of patentability. Shareholders defined as individuals or artificial legal person who issued stock/shares in a company with a view to get benefit with the hope of earning of profits by company. It is a sort of investment in ownership of company and get rights to the extent of their investment. Whereas stakeholders are the persons who impacted by the policies, rule, regulations & working of an organization. This is the broad term comprises of whom an organization directly or indirectly associated with. It referred to as somebody who has stake or interest in actions of the company at large or even small scale. This term in connection with a corporation consists of its staff, employees, customers, supplier, vendors, dealers & society in wider context. This is the term generated out of need of suitable corporate governance as well as part of corporate social responsibility. Shareholder owes fiduciary duties to minority shareholders as well as to other stakeholders comprising of society at large, means they must act in their self interest so as to maximize their profits by following corporate governance principles. I support Mr. Garfield as he is the supporter of new ideas of capitalism & believes in restructuring & revival mechanism of capitalism. He believes that instead of running a failing or loss making business, shareholders should accept beneficial proposal so as to evade compulsory winding up which impacted other business. He appears to be an ethical person when denied to take money from a widow. On the other hand, Mr. Andrew seems to be sympathetic towards employees, workers but actually he not grown up as manger & not taken any action to replace discard technology & owing to above reasons I vote in favor of Mr. Garfield as the organization runs to make profits & if an organization not works well, it must be restructured in a manner so as to maximize wealth of shareholders.

Factors Influence a Consumer to Select Restaurant in the UK Coursework
Factors Influence a Consumer to Select Restaurant in the UK - Coursework Example Restaurant selection has without any doubt become an established art as of these days. While consumers seemingly exclaim that the quality of prepared food and the type food are the critical variables for restaurant selection or rejection for that question, there might definitely be an overwhelming number of other less significant choice variables. This line of reasoning may in addition to the former one, prove to be an unquestioning component of the deciding factors in determining the final reflection on restaurant selection for the British consumers. In a very significant contrast to what used to be the norms in the early days of the restaurant in Britain, when getting fed was supposed to be the one and only explanation for hungry consumers to visit commercial eating places in the United Kingdom, consumers of the present age have acquired different moods and tastes and accordingly, rummage around for restaurants or dining places where they could get a more than fair to middling oppo rtunity in order to comply with the requirements of their specific penchant and palate. In sequence to putting adequate light on the subject of restaurant selection and the motives and driving factors that move British consumers, there is a dire need to furthermore look into and discuss another major and very much relevant topic which is; dining out. Selection of a Restaurant is no doubt very much related to the subject of Dining Out. Everyone needs to eat out and enjoy. There is a considerable population in Britain that actually loves to go and eat out in restaurants, cafes, fast food outlets and even bars, taverns, and inns. For some consumers though, it is a leisure activity that usually takes up all of their time and more often than not, their amounts of money too. The specific comportment, in which Britons dine out today, is evermore changing and before we could even start taking into account the ins and outs of modern day restaurant dining, it is important and interesting to u nderstand how the actual practice got underway.Ã

Personal Journey Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Personal Journey - Essay Example The time we are kids, we have our own choices and preferences about anything we come across without containment parts imposed by elders in the family or the peer group we live in. As Erikson says, at each stage, there must develop an ego capability for the further development of personality (Slee 2002, p.53). I remember the days which I was always free from entrustments of heavy burdens or ethical values to be added to my life unlike now. I had my schooling done in a comparatively small town with not many things to speak great bout those days. I can never say that I was at compromise with anything I longed for. I used to have good and fashionable clothes and lots of fun with very good friends. I must say, they should be the real gift of God. We had resourceful teachers to guide us through the high school education where the school was rated one of the top ten schools in the state. Since my physique was quite athletic, I was directed to join various training campaigns to get trained for competitive events at different levels. At times I was successful, but never did I have the feel that I would ever become a sports man. It may be the case because; I was much concerned about the humane elements of life. As an innate nature, I always liked to be of some help to people around me. Even today, I feel puzzled when I try to consolidate my present life with what I expected myself to be. It is for sure, my being a doctor was not an overnight affair. It took me several years of study and researches to become at lest what I am now. A clear ââ¬â cut study of evolutions happened in me may get you the idea about how people change themselves through different ages. I would never like to accept that I have done something to change myself; therefore, I can say that life changes on its way with condition pertaining to stages of life. According to Erikson, ââ¬Å"the adulthood stage focuses
